Guitarist Ron Bosse delivers a sleek and soulful collection of originals with an all star cast of LA studio studs. He must have just gone into the Baked Potato one night and raided the joint, as the album includes BP regulars like keyboardists Jeff Lorber, drummer Gary Novak, bassist Hadrien Feraud or Jimmy Haslip, and saxists Bob Reynolds and Bob Mintzer.
The horns are AWB funky on pieces such as “Bossman” and the funky backbeating title tune. The rhythm section teams up with the horns to create a Famous Flame atmosphere on the sizzling “Event Horizon” and stompoing “Rumble Strip”. Bosse pushes the wacka wooka dial on his guitar on “Checking In” and the bass boogies till it pukes on “Ante Up”. If there were an “Get Down”-ometer, this one would get close to a 10.
