Clean tone guitarist Mathieu Soucy teams up with Caity Gyorgy/voc, Jacob Wutzke/dr, Gentiane MG/p and Mike de Masi/b for a refreshing collection of material. Soucy has an angular sound to his bop, nifty on “Lennie’s Changes” while swinging to the cozy Gyorgy on “Where Or When”. His lines are clear, teaming up with MG on energetic “Turner Days” and showing clarity on his solo aria of Thelonious Monk’s “Reflections”. In fact there are a couple of other tunes that have the Monkish feel, the nifty “Blues For Barry” and the rumbling “5th Avenue”, while the team goes static in pulse on the floating “Recollecting”. Impressive ideas.
