Josh Sinton’s Predicate Quartet: Four Freedoms

Playing bari sax, bass clarinet and alto flute Josh Sinton has his textured compositions interpreted by his intuitive team of Jonathan Finlayson/tp, Christopher Hoffman/cello and Tom Rainey/dr.  The baritone sax gets fuzzy and into subtonal territory on the moaning “Step” , while loose directions are taken with Hoffman’s bowed cello, and Finlayson’s flailing on “Gateway”. A herky-jerky Blood is filled with fragmented flute and jagged edges, with agonizing screeches on reeds and horn on “Violets”. Was there a traffic cop to direct this rush hour?
