Consisting of Eddie Roberts/g, Joe Tatton/org-key, Simon Allen/dr, Peter Shand/b and Lamar Williams Jr/voc, The New Mastersounds sound like a mix of Derek and the Dominoes or The Doobie Brothers on these funky rootsy rockers. Williams ’earthy voice is featured on the bluesy “Gonna Get In My Way” and is soulful around the dancing bass line of “Highlining”. A rural “Meet You In The Sunshine” with Roberts includes rich harmonies, and the pretty Before” includes a humming Hammond. Roberts’ guitar gives tasty treats on the simmering “Hot Tub” along with guest Sheter Pand on trumpet and Allen gives a nice backbeat to the murky “Northern Lights”. Deep roots showing.
