Recorded back the 1980s, the team of bassist/leader Steve TIntweiss, Lou Grassidr, Byard Lancaster/wwinds, Charles Brackeen/ts-ss and Genie Sherman/voc deliver a 1 1/2+ hour set of loose jazz, mixed with some bohemian poetry. At times, such as on the blue “Ash Dung Blues Bowl” and “Knowledge Is Power”, there is a hip Mingusy feel to the tunes, with Tintweiss adept at the bass in guiding and changing directions. There’s a folksy flute to the moody “Risk-O-Disc” and the horns are melancholy on “Marion”. Sherman delivers lyrics that are a bit inane, repeating over and over “I Would Love To Love You”, which is not exactly Rodgers and Hart, and gives beat poetry to “Flash!”. Hey, it’s just out of the bell bottomed 70s.
