While it includes a reissue of the famous and popular 1957 Armstrong As Santa Claus, this album is one you never get tired of, just like Vince Guaraldi’s Charlie Brown collection. Also included is Armstrong reciting in his home back in 1971 “A Visit From St. Nicholas” with Sullivan Fortner adding rich piano obligato’s from the 21st Century. Also de rigueur is Armstrong on “What A Wonderful World” as well as his duets with Ella Fitzgerald (“I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm”) and Velma Middleton (“Baby, It’s Cold Outside”). Swingers like “Christmas In New Orleans” and the hoot of “’Zat You, Santa Claus?” make this a true stocking stuffer.
