****RINGER OF THE WEEK****So Long Seven: Only Elephants Know Her Name

The team of Neil Hendry on various guitars, banjo man Tim Posgate, exotic percussionist Ravi Naimpally and William Lamoureux on violin, viola, bass and guitar create a sumptuous mix of American gumbo and Asian masala on this tasty treat of sounds. With tablas, the band sounds like an Indian version of the band Oregon on the graceful “Mazimhaka” and the acoustic guitar gives a bit of Appalachia on “Kenojuuak”. Banjo strings prance with bowed ones on the prancing title tunes, and there’s an Andalusian mood as violins swing along with guest vocalist Samidha Jogler on “Frolick of the Monsson Frogs”. There’s even a dash of blues for “Ghost Ocean”, with the solos melding in and out of the ensembles like a Tata veering through traffic. The Cumberland Gap meets Kolkata.
