On soprano, alto and tenor saxes, Marco Pignataro creates fragrant and yearning moods on an album with all stars Joe Lovano/wwinds, John Patitucci/b, Terri Lyne Carrington/dr, Choco Pinheiro/g along with Nadia Washington/voc and Anastassiya Petrova/p. The dominant piece here is Patitucci’s three part “Suite Terra”, a wondrous affair that mixes Lovano’s bass clarinet and flute, Pignataro’s soprano sax and Washington’s earthy voice. Washington also does wonders with Pignataro’s soprano on a rich “Agua De Beber” while rapping out an assertive title tune teamed with Lovano’s sax and Carrington’s urban pulse. The tea is most assertive on “Irene’s Path” while the leader oozes reflection on an organic take of “Nature Boy” and the horns brood on a liturgical “Moon Threads” . A musical balm for Gilead.
