Ana Nelson: Bridges

Easy on the ears post bop is mixed with some chamber sounds by Ana Nelson switching between alto sax and clarinet along with t team of Jamaal Baptiste/p, Grendan Keller-Tuberg/p, Carter Pearson/dr, and other guests including a String Quartet. The latter give rich texture around Nelson’s warm alto on the exciting gallop of “Blue Flower” while giving a parlor atmosphere to her clarinet on the drummerless “Let The Light In”. Her licorice stick is sweet on a duet with Baptiste on lusciously Latin “NelBap Choro”, while Bill Nelson brings in his tenor for an upbeat “Fruit of the Groove” and Garrett Fasig does the same for a loose and propulsive “LCB”. Warm colors.
