Sweet Megg and Ricky Alexander: I’m In Love Again

Hot’cha jazz from about 100 years ago is revisited by the emotive vocalist Sweet Megg, co-leading with warm toned reed man and a supporting cast of Mike Davis/tp, Rob Edwards/tb, Jerron Paxton/ban-g, Dalton Ridenhour/p, Rob Adkins/b and Kevin Dorn/b. Strummed along by Paxton’s banjo, the team two steps to Alexander’s clarinet and Megg’s charms on the cooing “My Honey’s Loving Arms” while she gets languid with Alexander’s tenor on “Foolin Myself”. The horns get wild with Davis out in the lead on “I’d Love To Take Orders From You” with Ridenhour striding wide on the vaudevillian “Ragged But Right”. Megg shines best when in a more Spartan atmosphere as on a rich “I Got It Bad…” and plunging with the horns on “Just  Squeeze Me’. Charleston pleasures.
