Roxana Amed: Unanime

Vocalist Roxana Amed melds rich colors and moods on this collection of Latin Lover atmospheres with a supporting team including Martin Bejerano/p, Mark Small/sax-cl, Tim Jago/eg, Edward Perez/b, Ludwig Alfonso/g, Ramses Araya/perc and a rotating team of guests including “Chico Phinherrio/g, Chucho Valdes/p, Nino Josele/g and Julio Reyes Copello/p.

Amed’s voice is like warm honey, sleek and exotic on a flavorful read of Miles Davis’ “Flamenco Sketches” with Josele, and is breathy on harmonic unity with vocalist/bassist Pedro Aznar on “She’s upbeat with Bejereano for “Dos Tribus” whle agonizing with Linda Briceno’s flugelhorn on a bluesy “Nostalgia Andina”. As with a things Latin, less is always more, and she grabs you by the heart on an intimate duet with Pinheiro on “Agua Y Vino” and a relaxed yet prismatic “Duo Concertante” with Copello. When’s she coming to So Cal? WHEW!
