Bassist Matt Ulery juxtaposes the KAIA String Quartet (Victoria Moreira/vi, Joy Curtin/vi, Oana Tatu/va, Hope DeCelle/cel with support from him and his drummer of Jon Deitemyer on a rich amalgam of pastoral string sketches. The ideas range from Eastern European violin and pizzicato’d melodies as on “V” of the ten part “Becoming Giant” suite, to prancing pulses for “VI/VII”. There’s a rich romance to “I” while the vibrato yearns on “Shine Faintly With A Wavering Glow”. Chambered charms.
