Brothers Julian (trumpet) and Roman (piano) Wasserfuhr team up with Tim Lefebvre/b, Keith Carlock/dr Martin Scales/g, and tenor saxists Paul Heller-Tony Lakatos in a mix and match collection of sounds and moods. The brothers deliver a gentle and fragile duet on “Ladybirds” while “Aki Puh” includes warm tenor sax and an upbeat trio mood. The team gets muscular as they ascend and descend on “Forward” while the grunge classic “Spells Like Teen Spirit” is a jazzy rocker. Some puffy horns gasp on “Reset” and you even get a head scratching rapper on “Never Hold Back”. You might have to take a couple steps back to appreciate how everything is put together.
