Back in the 60s and 70s, there was a plethora of “family” bands such as The Bee Gees, The Jackson Five and The Pointer sisters, and even the Osmonds and DeFrancos. One that struck gold with a hit were The Cowsills, with songs capturing the Psychedelic sixties with soundtracks from the musical Hair, and the theme song from Love, American Style. Well, you get a family reunion of sorts with Brendon/g, Bob/g-voc, Ryan/key and Susan/g from the Cowsills along with Russ Broussard/dr and Mary Lasseigne/g catching up on about 30 years of silence.
The big take away is that the family is still a product of their times, emphasizing vocal harmonies that were de rigueur of the times. The songs themselves are strong on melody and message, such as “Ya Gotta Get Up” and of course optimistic as on “Lend A Hand” and “Try To Believe It Too”. Bob’s voice has leathered well, contributing some tasty guitar solos as well, and the family members serve as rich sup port in harmonies. Here, baby, there mama!
