Doug MacDonald: I’ll See You In My Dreams

California cool toned guitarist Doug MacDonald teams up with the classy trio of Tamir Hendelman/p, John Clayton/b and Jeff Hamilton/dr for a collection of timeless jazz standards and originals. What’s fun about albums like these is focusing on one of the artists each listen. For instance, you’ll fall in love with Hamilton’s brushes on a reclining “I Got It Bad”, while his sticks snap on the cymbals with Clayton on MacDonald’s own “More Yesterdays Than Tomorrows”. Hendelman shuffles hiply  on ”Don’cha Go ‘Way Mad” and Clayton bows out a sleek intro to “’Tis Autumn”. Oh, and the leader, well, he’s got bop in his veins, digging into “My Ship”, swinging on “Will You Be Mine” and casually cool on “I’ll See You In My Dreams”. Jazz that is live, and in the studio.
