Norwegian bassist Arild Anderson brings his quartet of Marius Neset/ts, Heige Lien/p and Hakon Mjaset Johansen/dr for a collection of “Affirmations” on this impressionistic collection of sounds. Neset’s tenor is warm and fluffy, giving a cantoral cry on the rustling pulse of bass and drums on “One” and crying on the tensile “Two”. Piano and bass strings pulsate under Nestet’s declarations on “Four” and Johansen’s cymbals guide the noir atmosphere on “Five”. Everyone scrambles into corners on “Six” whle the night sky glows on “Seven”. There is an epilogue, a “Short Story” that is a lovely folky melody that glistens like a sunset.
