You could make a good argument that swing music has its roots in Jewish Klezmer music, with guys like Goodman and Shaw “shwinging” the blues of the Jews. The band Queen Kong, consisting of Lorie Wolf/dr-voc, Michael Winograd/cl, Max Forster/tp-el, Nathan Dell-Vandenberg/tb, Tom Richards/souph, Graham Campbell/g and guests Beth Silver/cel with Jaron Freeman-Fox/vi take hits from the eastern European ghetto and bring them up to date, with some bebopping licorice stick work on “Kavod-19”, a “Take 5”ish cadence on “NBK” and a percussive groove with Forster on “Moshi”. Wolff sings wondrously on “Di Zun AVet Aruntergeyen” and drives out the dance with Campbell on “E ast 3rd and C”. Forster is cantoral on “Kaddish for Jonny” while Winograd glistens on “Kaddish for Johnny II”.
