Old School Soul is posted by vocalist James Holvay, who also plays guitar with a team of Les Falconer/dr, James Manning, Stu Pearlman/keys and a collection of background strings, horns and vocalists. Holvay himself sounds like the second coming of Curtis Mayfield, dripping with easy soul as on the shuffling “This Girl” and romantic “More Of You” or “She’s Gone Away” with tender strings. He’s got the backfield in motion for the rhythmic “Whatever She Wants” and rocks a bit for “Hot N’ Heavy Love”. Even the background harmonies are reminiscent of Mayfield’s days with the Impressions. Can he do the “Jerk”? I like this guy!
