Julius Rodriguez: Let Sound Tell All

Pianist and composer Julius Rodriguez sounds like he grew up in the church, with his music and messages reflecting a Sunday morning feeling. The songs range in size and styles, with a classic piano/bass/drum trio bopping on “Blues At The Barn” to a soulish disco a la CTI records on “Gift Of The moon” with Rodriguez on keyboards and Giveton Gelin on the grooving trumpet. There are a few loose pieces  such as  “Interlude” with Morgan Guerin on soprano sax for one trio read and a wild screech of a jam on a duet “Two Way Street” with doubling on electric bass and drums. Gentle reflections are created on the thoughtful “Where Grace Abounds” and the reflective “Elegy (For Cam) with Hailey Knox supplying pretty voice and the leader prophesying. , while Samar Joy preaches it on the testify on the soft “Magic Mama”, the indie-ying “In Heaven”. Sunday music for a Saturday night.
