The supergroup of Joshua Redman/ts-ss, Brad Mehldau/p, Christian McBride/b and Brian Blade/dr have released a rich album to coincide with their current tour. The album feels like an invitation to attend a gig, and it sounds worth going to. The four gents play with a confident swing, with the team gloriously relaxed as Redman blows smoke rings on the title song, and gives a breathy intro to Mehldau on the brooding “Statuesque”. Redman’s soprano is lithe on the upbeat “Disco Ears” and gives a vocal intro to a live recording of “Rejoice” that features McBride’s booming bass. Blade digs in to the elastic groove of “Ship To Shore” with the team having a musical air of confidence that is inspiring.
