Tasty mainstream tones are emitted from Jocelyn Gould’s guitar along with Will Bonness/p, Quincy Davis/dr, Rodney Whitaker/b and guest saxist Jon Gordon on a mix of standards and originals. Gould’s tone and delivery are reminiscent of vintage Johnny Smith-Herb Ellis-Barney Kessel sounds, and it works well with the clean and snappy swingers like “Golden Hour” and when the team goes from solo guitar to a clutch popping rive on “Lover Come Back To Me” with space for Davis and Bonness to show some wares. Bonness is a lyrical joy as well, tapping into his inner Bill Evans on the dreamy teaming of “Tides Are Turning”, the cozy duet of “A Cottage For Sale” or getting dark for Gould’s rich tones on the Methenyish “Geminin”. Gould also brings in some voice, as on the Flora Purim’d teaming with Gordon’s tenor sax on the upbeat Latin lover of “Serendipity” or the dreamy “Horizons”. Her solo read of “Sweet Lorraine” makes you want more of the same, with a rich mix of space and thoughts. Anymore albums by her we need to know about? `
