FEMME VOCE…Sheila Jordan: Live At Mezzrow, Beverley Church Hogan: Sweet Invitation

Classy canaries…

Recorded in concert at Mezzrow back in October 25, 2021, bop vocalist pioneer Sheila Jordan provides an intimate evening with bassist Harvie S and piano man Alan Broadbent. The two gents display their melodic marrow on a couple of luscious instrumentals like “What Is This Thing Called Love?” and a floating “Blue In Green”. Jordan is relaxed, well timed, world wise and a bit fragile as she bops through “The Bird & Confirmation” while undulating on “The Touch Of Your Lips”. Patient, she swings with calm pulsations on “ Lucky To Be e” and “Look For The Silver Lining”. A golden autumn in New York of her vocal career.

Beverley Church Hogan has a full and husky voice with her classy team of LA cats including John Proulz/p, Bob Sheppard/ts, Grant Geissman/g, Lyman Medeiros/b, Clayton Cameron-Dean Kora/dr and Kevin Winard/perc. Hogan is upbeat and confident dueting with Medeiros during the gliding “Falling In Love With Love” while  gives a hep dance over the piano and percussion of “Invitation” She swings with confident and comfort around Sheppard’s tenor on the smoky “Don’cha Go ‘Way Mad” and hovers with Proulx on “When October Goes”. Polished silver.
