Continuing his “Trios” series, Charles Lloyd creates impressionist atmospheres on four panoramic originals with long time pianist Gerald Clayton and guitarist Anthony Wilson. In his 8th decade, Lloyd is a master of tone, breathy and spacious on the elegiac “The Lovely O ne” while rolling in like a fog for the intro “Hagr of the Inuits” before Wilson rocks on and Clayton prances. The two younger gents give rich interplay around Lloyd’s feather flute on “Jamrillo Blues (For Virginia and Danny” with Clayton opening things off with a ripple of ivories. Strummed piano strings give an intro to the more abstract “Kuan Yin”, while the entire 40 minutes feels like a cozy conversation between a sage and students at his feet. Lessons worth imbibing.
