Guitarist Albare joins together with Phil Turcio/p, Ada Rovatti/ts-as, Phil Rex/b, Felix Bloxom/dr and all star Randy Brecker/tp-fh on a sizzling collection of soulful originals, reminiscent of the Brecker Brothers days.
His tone and style is rooted but not limited to vintage sounds of Wes Montgomery, giving some dreamy work with pianist Turcio on “Sketches” and bopping with Brecker and Rovatti on the bouncy “Randy Makes Me Smile”. There are soulful grooves aplenty, with Albare digging in when plugged in on “Lost Compas” and floating with Brecker’s flugelhorn on “Sunny Samba” and Bloxom’s brushes deft on the smooth “Shimmozle”. Upbeat beats and moods galore-this guy is creating an impressive catalogue.
