Steve Turre: Generations

Bold toned trombonist Steve Turre brings together an all star band that includes Wallace Roney Jr./tp, Buster Williams/b, Lenny White/dr, James Carter/ts, Ed Cherry/g and a host of others in this collection of rhythmic joys. Turre shows his modal roots with some stratospheric tenor work by Carter on the propulsive “Planting The Ceed” . Electric bassist Derrick Barnett supplies a nifty line for Roney and Turre on the reggae-pulsed “Don D” while sweet tones are squeezed out by Roney Jr. on the Latin Lover of “Good People”. As for the leader, his tone is glistens like the chrome of a 49 Buick as he takes the baton from pianist Isiah J. Thompson on “Dinner With Duke” and goes bel canto on “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes”. Cruise night!
