Guitarist Chieli Minucci is given the spotlight on upbeat album celebrating 40 years of music supplied by the band Special EFX. Minucci is featured on every song, even going solo as he p lays all of the instruments on the thoughtful “Words Left Unsead” and “December”d, but he mixes and matches in various formats with a mix and match mentality.
The team rocks the Southern Blues on an Allman Brothers beat of “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed” , with some hip jazzy moments on the fusioned “Showboat” and “Everything & Anything” which features alto sax great Eric Marienthal. There’s a nice African lilt to “Novembers Child” and an Irish jig for “Ceili Music” and Mino Cinelu giving a percussion discussion on Kampalino”. Long term relationships always rely on flexibility, and this album shows why this band has kept faithful all these years.
