Let’s here it for our gentlemen at the microphone…
Born in Newark and currently in London, vocalist Allen Austin-Bishop gives a creative, conversational style to singing in this eclectic reading of tunes with a team of Doran Ford/p-key, Mao Yamada/b, Rob Herrvais-Adleman/dr, Katie Edwards/sax and Fifi Homan/cel. With Ford, he delivers a deep and personal take of “Good Morning Heartache” while assuring the listener on “Come Here For Love”. He penetrates deeply with Yamada on “Do I Wanna Know” while gentle with Edwards’ alto sax on “Buffalo Ghosts”. There’s a pop feel to “Evergreen” while getting into a soul circle for “You Get My Love”. Relaxed and suave, like a young Johnny Hartman.
Vincent Ding has a warm baritone of a voice, similar in style to Frank Sinatra, as he goes down Nelson Riddle Lane on a collection of standards. With strings, he swings hard with an orchestra as well on “Fly Me To The Moon” while wondrous on “What Kind OF Fool Am I”. In a big band setting led by bass clarinet, there’s a vintage Capitol Records feel to “All My Tomorrows” while swinging to the Basie vibe during “On The Sunny Side Of THE Street”, boldly double timing through “I’ve Got The World On A String”. Vegas vocals.
