Drummer Clemens Grassmann brings his sticks and pen for playing, writing and arranging for his tunes to be interpreted by his team of Aaron Bahr/tp, David Milazzo/as, Sam Dillon/ts, Chis McCarty/p and Cole Davis/b. Grassmann shares the spotlight and wealth as he lets just about everyone get a turn at introducing one of his pieces. McCarty is delicate over the soft brushes on “Petrichor” while Davis is thick and rich before Grassmann taps into his inner Elvin Jones under Milazzo’s pungent alto on “Rat Jacuzzi”. Bittner is warm on the easy glide of “Re: Op” and the team gallops to “Glimpse of a Second Sound”. Strong charts and strong muscles flexed.
