PUNK REVISITED…The Muffs: Really Really Happy

Starting in the late 1970s, rock got an injection of energy with the Punk/New Wave movement created by The Police, Elvis Costello and Blondie, not to mention The Ramones. The Second Generation band The Muffs got together in 1993, with this album recorded back in 2004, just before they broke up for awhile. The trio of Ronnie Barnett/b, Roy McDonald/dr and Kim Shattuck/g-voc create an album here of high energy catchy choruses like the title tune and high voltage “Freak Out” with Shattuck a great mix of sass and irony. The band must have been charged by the chord, as no songs goes over three as on “A Little Luxury” and “My Awful Dream”. There’s also a cd of demos here, with many of the songs less polished and therefore, more “live” and reflective of the garage from which they came. Ready for spiked hair again?
