Pianist Johannes Wallmann leads a deft and flexible team of Sharel C assity/as, Mitch Shiner/vib, John Christensen/b and Devin Drobka/dr through ten originals. The center piece is a three part “Pandemica”, which includes a dark piano, easy swinging vibes and a bold and pungent alto sax, respectively. Wallman creates modal ripples on the dramatic tribute “McCoy” and is in big stride on the soulful title tune. Drobka creates a sleek groove with Christensen on “Saturday Night Meat Raffle” and is sharp on the sticks as Cassitysways on “December”. Firm foundations.
