Playing tenor and saxophone Chris Greene leads an assertive post bop team of Damian Espinosa/p-key, Steve Corley/dr and Marc Piane/b through a rollicking collection of covers and originals on this recording of a concert. On tenor sax, he asserts himself over Corleys’ rockish drumming on Piane’s “Divers” and is upbeat with Espinosa along with Piane’s bass line on his own “Samba Fu Maga”, rollicking on the gospel’d read of Tony Williams’ “You Win Again”. His soprano sax creates an exotic feel over Espinosa on “Caravan” and sears through a modal read of George Duke’s “Omi”, with an avalanche of percussion provided by everyone at one point or another. An evening of energy.
