The Duke Robillard Band: They Called It Rhythm & Blues

One of the better contributions to Western Civilization is the shuffling R&B groove pioneered in the 40s and 50s and re-oiled and tuned up here  by guitar vet Duke Robillard and his team of Chris Cote/voc, Bruce Bears/p-org, Marty Ballou/b, Mark Teixeira/dr, Doug James/bs-ts and a 57 Chevy filled collection of sitting in guests.

The feel is like a road band that brings in various guests to the different locales, as sassy voiced Kim Wilson brings his harmonica to jump the juke joint with pianist Matt McCabe on “Tell Me Why” before she hits the gospel road on “Trouble In Mind” . Cote has a classic dusty road voice, riding on the Kansas City beat on ‘Here I’m Is” and boogie-ing in New Orleans for “In The Wee Wee Hours”. Guest John Hammond sits on the back porch with the honeysuckle vines for “No Place To Go” and Robillard gets cozy on the rocking chair with Anita Suhanin  on the folksy blues of “Outta Here”. Toe tapping treasures.
