Sven Anderson plays piano, organ and guitar, teamed with John Barron/b, Rob Emanuel/drd, S teve Wood/ts-ss-fl, Scott Cowan/tp, Edward Gooch/tb and a collection of guests on this swinging collection of originals. The bound at times sounds like Steely Dan, with hip horns and clever grooves on “Friends” or the shadowy “When You Sleep Do You Speak?” with the team getting snappy on “Eye Ear Toe”. Anderson shows his modal chops on “Sir Tyner” while Janet Tenaj coos on the lovely Brazilian “Jobim” and the joyful “Doc’s Holiday”. The team gets Vaudevillian for “Piano Mang” and swaggers on “John’s Big Feet”, while getting funky on “Groove Chick”. A real shoot out!
