An easy mix of jazz and R&B is stirred by Jessy J, playing a variety of saxes and throwing in a flute with a grooving team of Jay Rowe/p, Dave Anderson/b, Trevor Somerville/dr, Richie Gajate Garciea/perc, Andy Abel/g and guest Jeff Lorber/k-b-g. The album is reminiscent of the soulful days of Ronnie Laws in the 70s when Blue Note did some funky strutting, as Jessy has a bold tone on all three horns for a grooving title track, and taps into her inner Tower of Power for a jamming “Malt Shop”. Lorber adds tons of AWB textures to “Dig It” while the grooves are upbeat even with Jay Rowe’s strings on the optimistic “Spinnin’”. Her tenor sax glows on the pretty “Song For David” and is smooth on “Dance Beat”. Upbeat beats.
