BLUES ROCKING TRIOS…The Kenneth Brian Band: Keys to the Kingdom, Horojo Trio: Set The Record

Vocalist/guitarist Kenneth Brian rocks 70s style with his team of Chris Cano/dr, Brandon Owens/b-key and collection of guests. There’s a hint of Mott The Hoople on the riffing “She Is The Night” and title tune, with Brian rasping out the lyrics, while some slithering guitar work on “You’ve Got To Live” sears like Aerosmith. The team delivers red clay’d delta blues on “Rimrock” and penetrating ballads such as “Crazy” with some pretty picking on the tender “Love”. Street level Strats.

Consisting of Jamie Holmes/dr, Jeff Rogers/voc-key and JW Jones/g, the self-titled Horojo (getting the name from the beginning of everyone’s last name) provide rootsy styled rock not dissimilar to The Doobie Brothers or Creedence Clearwater. Rogers has a dash of Michael McDonald in his voice during the poppish “A Little Goes A Long Way” and the upbeat “Set The Record Straight” while getting scrappy on the urgent “Real Deal”. The team knows how to boogie as they beat the bars on the peppy “Raman’s Blues” and the Austin City grit of “Man of Steel”, while able to slow down to a gospel mood on the passionate “The Night”. Roadhouse rockers.
