The latest in the series of Jazz Is Dead comes from composer Adrian Younge, vocalist Jean Carne and DJ Ali Shaheed Muhammed come together for what sounds like a collection of relentless soul pulses, deep grooves and mostly kaleidoscopic voices. There’s a hint of Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride on “Come As You Are” and a mix of rapid nonsensical words on the soulful “People of the Son”. Wacka wooka 70s hipness with keyboards dominate the Stevie WOnderish “Visions”, with Carne sounding a lot like Nina Simone on the repetitive “My Mystic Life” and urban “Black Rainbows”. Innervisions in a prism.
