Mark Lockheart: Dreamers

British composer Mark Lockheart creates a mix of atmospheres on tenor and soprano sax with his team of Elliot Galvin/key, Tom Herbert/b and Dave Smith . His tenor is reminiscent of 70s albums by John Klemmer, displaying a bit of echo and electronica on the spacious and s pacey “Weird Weather” and “Jagdish”while the team rocks hard through Herbert’s pulsating fingers on “Dreamers”. A mix of Nintendo and metal coexist on “Fluorescences” with reflections of early Weather Report on the panoramic “Mingle Tingle” and Eno-influenced “King Of TheWorld”. On soprano, things get futuristic on “Dream Weaver” while Smith’s jagged drums create an undercurrent on “Gangster Rat”. Space Oddities.
