Guitarist Juan Carlos Quintero hits my weak spot for Brazilian jazz, as his Wes Montgomery-styled strings take on bop standards and South American tunes. Teamed with Eddie Resto/bo, Joe Rotondi/p, Aaron Serfaty/dr and Joey DeLeon/perc, he sizzles over the lithe percussion and bass grooves on “The Gentle Rain” and sleekly surfs over “Days of Whine and Roses”. The team dances over a nifty Latinized take of “Song for my Father” while Serfaty’s sticks slowly build up on a clever and lyrical read of “Giant Steps”. Quintero gives a rich intro that slides over Serfaty’s brushes on “Manha De Carnaval” while the team rocks out on “Porque Si Quieres”. A warm Brazilian shower.
