Deep grooves and electronic noodles make up this album by Jack Powell/g-synth/dr, Nick Carusos/b, Jordan McLean/tp, Dave Smith/tb and Alan Brisendine/keys. The ten songs all have a kind of synthetic drum beat and groove, seemingly programmed, but stillwith a heavy hit as on the funky “Pickpocket” and “Window Seat”. The guitars create wacka wookas like a Shaft movie on “Jerwater Strut” and “Lampshade” but with electronic spins and turned dials. Most pretty is the graceful “Mustard Stain” with tasty guitar musings, with most of the time the horns giving a swampy feel along with the funk fest of “Window Seat”. Disco with extra plug ins?
