The career of legendary multi-instrumentalist Ira Sullivan (1931-2020) is celebrated here by the guitar-dominated band of Brev Sullivan, Leo Quintero and Miriam Stone along with Javier Espinoza/b, Yainer Horta/key-ss and Kevin Abanto/dr. The 18 string’d mix works well on the mix of standards and Sullivan tunes, like the rapid run of the snappy “ I Get A Kick Out Of You”, while there are some tell-tale signs of a Santana influence, as the team gallops through the rocking “ Multimedia” with some intense thick metal on “Nineveh”. Horta’s soprano sax is lovely on the exotic “Espresso Bueno” and soulful for the fusiony “Circumstantial” whle the team bops with delight on “Our Delight”. Things are most gentle on the misty “Icarus” and the gentle nylons show no runs in them on the beautiful take of “Amazing Grace”. Cheerful tunes.
