Sam Moss: Blues Approved

One of the overlooked blue eyed blues rockers of the 1960s was guitarist Sam Moss, who’s represented on this collection of studio and “live” recordings. The songs reflect the blues renaissance of the 1960s and 70s, with Moss singing and playing guitar on pieces like the STAXY “Rooster Blood”, and his 1977 band sounding like the band Free on “Kin of My Hill”, “Vida Blanche” and “If You See My Baby”. There are some intriguing throw-ins, like a hip read of The Monkees’ “Pleasant Valley Sunday” and a hoot of a “Act Naturally”. The wake of Mayall and Bloomfield.
