Except for the incongruity of leader, guitarist and vocalist Reddog wearing a Gibson T-shirt while playing a Fender guitar, his album with Clayton Ivey/key, David Hood/b, Justin Holder-Bill Stewart/dr, Stevie Hawkins/perc and Carla Russell-Mary Mason-Angela Hacker/voc is pretty consistent with the blue-eyed rocker genre. Lots of times, the band sounds like a mix of the Young Rascals and a stripped-down version of The Allman Brothers, with Reddog telling a story on the easy beat of “Love, You’ve Got To Spread the Word” and the thick pulsed boogie with Holder in front on “Don’t Muscle That Shuffle”. Reddog has a delta feel on his slide guitar , with a swampy “Searching for Some Soul” and a rural “She’s a Georgia Peach” with the ladies in vocal support. The team gets funky on “Back in the Bottle Again” and gives a gospel feel to “Honest Man”. Blue jeaned blues.
The trio of guitarist/vocalist Reverend Nathon Dees with drummer Gary Delz and bassist Aaron Dees deliver a dozen thick and swampy blues rockers. The Reverend plays a rich slide guitar on “Goin’ Fishin’” and takes you to the deep delta for “Walking On”. The chords are thick and palpable as the team boogies through “Darker Shad of Blues” and the Hendrixy “Bi-Polar Blues” while Delz leads the gallop on “Deep” and leads through the murky waters of “A Better Day”. Foghat for the new millennium.
