Joe LoCascio: Book of Days

Rich post bop sounds are created by pianist/composer Joe LoCascio and his nimble team of Richard Mikel/b, Daniel Dufor/dr and Woody Witt/ts-ss. The band has a way of creating a reflective theme, eventually leading to an extroverted conclusion, as on the bel canto to assertive “Nomads” with Witt’s bel canto tenor. Mikel introduces the kinetic “Point Taken” and bows around the leader on the energetic “Vigil”. Witt’s soprano sax is dreamy on the melancholy “Fantomas” this his tenor Graceful during “Lighthouse”. The leader himself adds mystery to his ivories on “Notes From A Foreign Land” and is articulate on the thoughtful “Broken Angels”. Mature and muscular musings.
