Guitarist and composer Greg Lake leads a post bop team of Seamus Blake/ts, Brian Hogans/as, Mike Eckroth/p, Edward Perez/b, Henry Cole/dr, Mauricio Herrera/perc and Vanessa Diamond/voc for this reissue and then some of a 2011 recording.
Diamond brings passionate vocals over Perez’s bass line on the lilting “Tonada de Luna Llena” while Blake’s tenor bops with the leader on “Yvette” and plods on the cadence of “Inertia”. Hogans rocks with a plugged in Diamond on “El Martillo” and is gentle when the strings are acoustic during “Chance”. The team does well at telling a story, as on the warm “Shift” and post bopping “Turbulence”. Creativity abounds with each tune a wonderful musical novella.
