WOMEN AT THE MIC…Adrianne Duncan: Gemini, Alyssa Giammaria: Moments

Soft sounds from gentle ladies…

Adrianne Duncan plays piano and sings in a rich bohemian style with her team of Nick Mancini/vib, Dan Lutz/b, Jimmy Branly/dr, John Tegmeyer/cl and Katisse Buckingham/fl-ts on a collection of mostly originals. The sole cover is a clever take of The Police’s “Roxanne” that richly displays Duncan’s vocal range around Lutz’s electric bass. She excels in quietude on the intro to the pretty “He’s Not Quite You” gradually building up with Mancini’s soulful vibes. She reflects with Buckingham on the nocturne of “Elijah” while her piano chops are in good form on the post bopping “Gemini” and on the intro to the romantic and melancholic “Home At Last” featuring Buckingham’s feathery flute. A charmer.

Soft toned Alyssa Giammaria delivers personal and folksy jazz originals on this five song ep. With bowed bass in support she’s mellow on “Beginning and End”, while she veers in and out of the  horns on “Moments”. She wisps through an ethereal “What About” and is intimate with piano on a delicate understand”. Drawing you in with restraint.
