Halley-Clucas-Reed-Halley: Boomslang

Tenor saxist Rich Halley brings back aural images of the free flying days of Charles Mingus with his lithe team of Dan Clucas/ct, Clyde Reed/b and Carson Halley/b. A sort of Monk minus piano takes place on the quirky pieces “Corroboration” and the bopping “Quintuplify”, while Reed leads the freebop on “The Lean” and “Intermittant”. Halley on tenor is thick and sorghum rich, swaying on “The Drop Off” and doing a strong arm wrestle with brother Carson on “Siturational” and the steady “Northern Plains” with Clucas’ sweet tone a perfect complement and foil. A Mingus among us.
