Eric Goletz plays trombone and keyboards with a funk team of Randy Brecker/tp-fh, Jim Ridl/p, Allen Farnham/key, Henry Heinitsh/g, Marco Panascia/b, Steve Johns/dr, Joe Mowatt/perc, a guest horn and string section for a funk set of most originals. The band gives a hint of vintage Steely Dan as Ridl swings out “Greene Street Groove”, Panascia’s electic bass bounces on a hip “The Mirror” and rocks with Brecker on “Don’t Gimme That”. Goletz’s trombone is big and proud over the sizzling “Dig” and the glowing “Enchanted”, with some spacey fusion with Heinitsch on “A New Light”. The horns are elegiac as bookends on “Prelude” and “Postlude”, making for a rich suite of sweet sounds. Don’t lose that number.
