The unorthodox combo of baritone saxist and leader Dave Sewelson includes lap steel guitarist Mike Neer along with bassist Dave Hofstra and drummer Bernice “Boom Boom” Brooks for a handful of elastic tunes. There are two takes of the standard “Nature Boy”, both in an R&B feel with Sewelson growling out lyrics in a bluesy fashion. Neer’s strings are folksy on the rhythmic “Song Moth” and pretty on the dainty “Bill” with Sewelson’s beefy brass at its jazziest with a bopping Neer on “The Moment”.
