Philippe Cote/Marc Copland: Bell Tolls Variations/Fleur Revisited

There is a collection of poems included in the liner notes of this album that includes co-leaders Marc Copland/p and Philippe Cote/ss-bcl. They bring in the Quatuor Saguenay string quartet for music that is inspired by both Greek Mythology and Buddhist world views. The strings get Hitchcockian on “The Phase” with dashes of Bartok for “Oracle”. Copland is melancholic with them on “Lethe’s Song” while Cote’s soprano gets romantic during “Alohemy I-II. Copland goes solo on the nocturnal, dark on the keys for  “Interlude: The Shades, as the strings are tensile on “Hallowed Skies” and the pizzicato’d “The Bond”. Delphi meets the Bodhi Tree.
