Recorded while in concert at Brooklyn’s Soapbox Gallery, Vocalist and harmonica man Paul Jost tells stories and political discussions with his team of Jim Ridl/p, Dean Johnson/b, Tim Horner/dr and Lorin Cohen-Martin Wind/b on a 2cd set filled with social and political issues. The two discs are labeled “Poetic Justice” and “An Appeal For Reason” as Jost, singing and sermonizing in a Mark Murphy-styled delivery, sounds like a jazz version of MSNBC as he sings about George Floyd and the January 6th “Insurgence”, as is his right. Songs of social issues such as “By Bye Blackbird”, “Ev’rybody’s Talkin’”, and his own “Livin’ In The Wrong Time” are mixed with a dark take of “Sunshine Superman” and flexible “Lover Man”. Bohemian rhapsodies for the Blue States of Mind.
